I love wearing loafers and have done so for many years. They are the most comfortable professional looking and style of footwear for work. I would estimate that I’ve got about 10 different pairs in my collection. Although, I know that sneakers are sometimes an option to be paired with suits – that’s really not my style. Here are my top picks as we head back into the office or back to school.
This will blog post is heavy with pictures because I want to be able to share all these fabulous loafers from every possible angle. It will make it so much easier for you to decide which pair you’re going to want to run out and purchase.

What is a Loafer?
A loafer is generally a step-in or slip-on shoe, with an upper resembling a moccasin. There are no laces or fasteners to keep the shoe on your foot. They are considered low shoes as your ankles are exposed, with a separate sole and heel. Generally loafers have broad flat heel. They can be made out of various materials but most are leather or suede.

Reason #1 – COMFORT
Loafers are distinctly different compared with other shoes in my wardrobe. They are a classic shoe with an endless array of materials, styles, and colours to choose from. I guarantee that there is the perfect pair for you!!
Comfort is one of the reasons why I gravitate to the classic loafer. The first time I tried Donald Pliner’s line – my feet felt like they were walking on pillows. As an wedding planner who put in her steps at many events, these are a God send!!
My pearlized purple suede pair features an embroidered emblem on the rounded toe, with rhinestone studs in the heels – Just the right amount of bling for me. Since I’ve had them for about 6 years and wear them so often, I’ve had them resoled. This is definitely a brand that I would buy again.
Here is Donald Pliner’s Rezza signature loafer. I love the dark blue colour but this design has 7 additional colour options. It’s got that smoking slipper silhouette. According to their website, these loafers have comfort features throughout, like a rubber forepart to provide extra flexibility and non-slip traction. The piping detailing throughout the upper adds an extra polished look to this loafer.

Reason #2 – Price Point
Loafers can be found at any price point. I purchased two pairs from Franco Sarto’s collection a couple of years ago. I couldn’t decide between their baby blue suede and their leather black and white version – so I bought both!
Here’s their Franco Averly 2 Loafers and they are available in 6 colour choices. They feature a square toe and with 0.39” heel. They use InFORMA comfort technology: Ergonomic insoles, contoured padding at key pressure points, and exceptional support.

Reason #3 – Ease of Wear
Loafers are truly convenient. No need to worry about buckles, straps and laces. This is why they are considered step-in or slip-on. You’re ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Reason #4 – Versatility with Socks
Loafers can be worn with out without socks. This is an added bonus if you are in the Northern hemisphere like I am – 6 months out of the year, socks definitely keep my toes warmer.

Reason #5 – Embellishments
Luxury brands have understood that women desire a fabulous loafer. You don’t have to sacrifice style when wearing a loafer.
I really love the Gucci’s Brixton Horsebit Loafers but not sure that I can get behind their Convertible Loafers. However, some people really enjoy their convertible ones.
Gucci has designed a mid-heel height loafer which is exquisite. Again, I don’t think that I’d ever wear them as a convertible shoe even if they can be – I just don’t prefer that folded down look.
If you are wanting some star power, then consider the Gucci’s Peyton loafer. They have a square toe pair in white leather with a blue and red webbing accent. The heel is a bit taller than other loafers, and stands 1.5” tall featuring GG pearl and studs.
